Job Title: Counter Person

Pay Rate: $15 per hour

Reports To: Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

 

Summary: Responsible for counting and sorting bottles and cans as well as customer service by performing the following duties.

 

 

Qualifications:

Language Ability:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to broken glass, dirt and debris, and possible bodily fluids. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), toxic or caustic chemicals, and outdoor weather conditions.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

-   Responsible for getting the money from the safe to put in cash register.*

 

     Turns signs on including “Open” sign.*

 

     Responsible for, weather permitting, opening door to stay open.*

 

     Ensures the garbage and recycling bins are ready for customers.*

 

     Ensures there are a sufficient amount of empty boxes up front.*

 

     Greets customers as they come in the door.*

 

    Wears gloves when taking returns.*

 

    Counts and sorts all bottles and cans.*

 

    Marks 100 can or bottle with a marker.*

 

  Pulls bags when correct amount has been reached such as all can bags are 240, small plastic 168, and large plastic at 60. *

 

  Pulls glass bins when full.*

 

  Pays customer monies owed keeping in mind 100 units equals five dollars and twenty units equals one dollar.*

 

  Responsible for knowing how much a customer is getting before ringing it up.*

 

  Responsible for counting and entering into our customer account book if a customer is donating to an account.*

 

  Responsible for thanking the customer for coming in and invites them back.*

 

  Puts bags and cases away.*

 

  Measures cans against wall if needed.*

 

  Returns any units as needed and ties the bag twice. *

 

   Writes down bags and cases on the board before putting them in the back. *

 

   Marks bags and cases accurately on daily area and upper area.*

 

   Sorts glass according to distributer and color.

 

  Puts a few bags and cases away in between customers.*

 

   Responsible for taking a moment to put glass away if it builds up.*

 

  Opens overhead door for driver.*

 

   Compares slip to inventory and signs invoice slip.*

  Accepts any supplies from drivers as in bags, boxes, tape, and others as needed.*

 

   Responsible for putting pre-counts away.*

 

   Wipes down cash register, walls, and pool front.*

 

   Sweeps out the pool and floor.*

 

  Pulls garbage and recycling bins if needed.*

 

   Sets up Gaylords if needed.*

 

   Turns sign off.*

 

   Closes the door and locks it.*

 

   Counts money in the safe and the drawer and records on daily sheet.*

 

   Fills in unit part of the daily sheet using the daily part of the board or sheet.*

 

   Responsible for putting money in safe.*

 

  Turns off heat, fan, and/or air conditioning and lights.*

 

  Locks utility room.*

 

 Responsible for ensuring overhead door is locked.*

 

  Responsible for locking front door when leaving.*

 

  Keeps the office clean.

  Responsible for not smoking.

 

  Responsible for being polite to customers.

 

  Responsible for being neat and efficient.
